Cross-Matter Management is the ability to identify and collect custodian data for a case, process it once, host it in a single repository, and then reuse the data and resulting work product for subsequent matters. While seemingly straightforward, Cross-Matter Management is not widely adopted for two fundamental reasons. First, innovation in the industry has been narrowly aimed at streamlining discrete phases of the eDiscovery lifecycle, and secondly, the focus has been almost exclusively at the level of individual projects or matters. While technology has made great strides in standardizing and systematizing eDiscovery processes, until now comparatively little attention has been paid to the possibility of integrating those processes across a series of matters over longer periods of time.
