Our client represented a Korean technology corporation engaged in patent litigation with a rival company. There were significant discovery challenges at hand, including ESI in multiple Unicode languages and non-standard applications. Given the communication and technological issues and the high legal stakes of the situation, the client required expertise beyond what is available from in-house resources.

Solution

Daegis® consulted with the law firm and corporate counsel and IT resources to immediately implement a data preservation policy and to identify data sources for collection. Daegis dispatched a collections team to Korea to collect potentially relevant ESI in a forensically sound manner. The collection team successfully managed language barriers and proprietary Korean applications that made preservation and collection a challenge. On a parallel track, Daegis designed a language tool to display, search, and translate Korean, Chinese, and Japanese documents. Our solution allowed attorneys to review documents in their native languages via Daegis’  eDiscovery Platform.
