Challenge

Our client represented a financial institution involved in an internal investigation. Our client’s goal was to parse out the review population into two sets, Italian and English and to bring in specialized review teams to handle each set. The challenge was to process the documents in their native language, apply both Italian and English search terms, and release the data for review.

Solution

Daegis® consulted with our client and came up with a list of more than 125 English terms and 200 Italian terms. Using Daegis’ ability to run searches in native languages, the Italian search terms were applied to the global-deduped, date-filtered populations to come up with documents containing the key Italian terms. These documents were then distributed to the Italian language review team. The process was then replicated for the English terms. By breaking out the Italian-language documents up front, our client could determine the exact number of Italian reviewers needed to complete the review in their time frame. The process also allowed the Italian review team to focus on just the documents needing their specialized skills, while the other population could be reviewed by the English team. It also helped to minimize the number of times each record was touched by the review teams, which saved time and money for our client. In the end, 20,000 documents were review by the Italian review team, while the remaining set was reviewed by the English review team. Without the ability to search in Italian, these documents would have ended up needing to be reviewed twice.
