Challenge
Our client, a large technology corporation was undertaking an extensive internal investigation and urgently needed to preserve data from 125 custodians with multiple devices, such as laptops, desktops, smartphones and file shares, dispersed across ten cities and various remote locations in two Asian countries. Efficiency and discretion were of paramount importance to the success of the preservation effort. Additionally, data from all 125 custodians would need to be collected from the client’s proprietary email system and reviewed by outside counsel.
Solution
A Daegis® collection consultant worked with the corporate counsel and IT teams to develop a collection plan for each location. Once on the ground, the Daegis collections team partnered with local corporate liaisons to ensure that the custodian devices were delivered in accordance with an aggressive collection schedule. Nearby remote custodians reported to central locations to reduce time-consuming and costly travel expenses. The collection of 14 terabytes of data was completed on schedule, exceeding the client’s most optimistic timetable.
After Daegis’ collections technicians imaged the hard drives, outside counsel used DHCollect catalogs on the preserved images to target their collection of relevant files for any priority custodians identified as the investigation progressed.
In addition, while data was being collected abroad, a United States based Daegis collections specialist worked with the client’s IT manager to collect a substantial quantity of data from the email system. The mailboxes were converted to PST and then loaded successfully to the Daegis eDiscovery Platform for subsequent review by outside counsel.
